Mission
Statement
"To develop the full potential of children and
adults with disabilities and lead them closer to independence through a
therapy, recreation, horse riding, life skills and farm related activity
program."
Since 1982, Sunrise has provided a program of therapy,
recreation, sport and life skills training for children and adults with
special needs. The program focuses on individual ability by providing an
environment of challenge, enjoyment and achievement.
Benefits
Therapeutic riding, vaulting and driving are beneficial
for young people and adults with both physical and developmental
challenges. Individuals experience important physical, psychological and
social benefits through an effective combination of therapy, recreation
and animal care programs. These include the following:
- Development of muscle strength and flexibility
- Improvement of balance
- Mobilization of trunk and pelvis
- Improved learning skills and concentration
- Access to social integration
- A sense of achievement and independence
- Increased self-esteem and self-confidence
Aims and
Objectives
- To provide a high quality therapeutic, recreation, and sport
equestrian program under the direction of qualified professional
personnel.
- To offer a caring and stimulating environment, which will help
individuals, experience physical, psychological, and social benefits
using animal assisted therapy.
- To teach life skills and assist with developing the full
potential of young people with special needs using a farm
environment and farm related activities.
- To teach the participant responsibility through the care and
management of the program horses, farm property and gardens.
- To raise awareness in the community regarding the program’s
impact on the challenges faced and overcome by children and adults
with special needs.
- To continually seek new goals for the program and the
participants, creating an environment of challenge, enjoyment and
achievement.
