Many therapeutic riding centres rely heavily on Volunteer Instructors to assist in program delivery.

If you are willing to learn, caring and dedicated you may be able to become a Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor.

The certification process, through CanTRA is set up in a step by step process to allow you to build on your existing skills and knowledge.

 One (1) Week Theory & Practical Course

August 9th-13th, 2010

 

      Course Leader:   Nicola Thibodeau, CanTRA Coach/Examiner

 

  • Theory & scenarios in the morning

  • Assignments in the afternoon

  • Practical work with horses & riders each evening 

            

§         Residential space is limited to a maximum of 6 candidates

§         Accommodation in Century Stone Farmhouse

§         Kitchen Facilities – Students prepare their own food

About the Course Leader:

 

Nicola has 30 years experience in therapeutic riding.  She is a CanTRA Coach & active CanTRA Examiner with a background in social work.

 

Nicola was the Sunrise Program Director and Head Instructor for 18 years, and now works in the school system with children with Autism.

 

Over the years Nicola has mentored many students preparing for all levels of therapeutic riding examinations.

 

She also gives instructor updating workshops and has examined students across Canada.

Canadian Therapeutic Riding
Assistant Instructor (CTRAI) &
Intermediate Instructor (CTRII)
Training

Sunrise offers training for individuals interested in pursuing Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association (CanTRA) certification.   Candidates will receive instruction using the CanTRA AI Home Study and exam curriculum from Qualified Course Conductors. This will assist in preparation for the Canadian Therapeutic Riding Assistant / Intermediate Instructor Exam.

$1200.00* CDN FUNDS (*subject to change without notice)
Full time residential program. Limited accommodations available.

Fee Includes: 

  • -All lectures and practical sessions
  • -Accommodation - basic dormitory style
  • -4 piece bathroom (shared by students)
  • -Food "starter"
  • -Kitchenette facilities
  • -Heated lounge/study area in barn
  • -Resource Room with VCR
  • CTRAI Prerequisites:

  • Registered as an active CanTRA certification candidate
  • Current CPR and First Aid
  • Equine Canada Old Rider Level 1 or Pony Club C
  • CanTRA "AI" Home Study*
  • CanTRA Instructor Manual*
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • *Interested candidates must have completed and submitted the AI Home Study two months before course commencement, CanTRA Instructor Manual required as well, both available from CanTRA
